Faculty Spotlight

Professor Carol Davis was selected as one of the winners of the Half the Sky contest sponsored by the New York Times and columnist Nicholas Kristof. Out of more than 700 entries, Professor Davis's work with Nepal was deemed "truly remarkable" by Kristof. In her entry she detailed how she set up a program in Nepal that focused on personal health and hygeiene, girl's education and maternal mortality. She was featured in an article which you can find here and won a signed copy of "Half the Sky." Congratulations to Professor Davis on her fine accomplishments!

In the Spotlight

Professor Pamela Vail showed her choreography at the Philadelphia Fringe Festival on Sept. 11 & 12 at the Performance Garage. Her piece "Something Striking" was a shared concert with Muhlenberg College dance professor Sarah Carlson. Vail presented three distinct pieces encompassing a range of tones and perspectives. Rich physicality of both the body and the spoken word offered resonant metaphors and layers of meaning in Pulse/Apology (2008), a solo created and performed by Vail, with original text by playwright and F&M theater professor Brian Silberman. Vail also premiered a new solo, and a duet performed by F&M alumni Lyndsey Vader and Cristin Van Horn (both class of '06).
